Immunoprecipitation (IP) is a method that uses antibody specificity to isolate a particular protein (antigen) from a complex sample mixture. When performing an IP reaction, an antibody is added to the sample to capture a target protein, forming an antibody-antigen complex that is isolated upon bead attachment. Once the bead-antibody-antigen complex has been formed, wash steps are used to remove any free antibody or antigen, followed by downstream readouts such as western blot.
