Hematopoiesis to MDSCs in Normal and Chronic Conditions
Description
In normal hematopoiesis, hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) differentiate into various lineages, including myeloid and lymphoid cells. Myeloid progenitors give rise to granulocytes, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. MDSCs are not typically present in significant numbers in healthy individuals.
In chronic conditions such as cancer the body's immune system is constantly activated. This leads to an expansion of the myeloid compartment, resulting in the generation of MDSCs.
