Mechanism of Action of ASOs
Description
ASOs modulate gene expression by binding to target RNA through sequence-specific Watson-Crick base pairing. ASOs can influence the a) splicing of pre-mRNA exons, b) 5’ capping, and c) polyadenylation, impacting protein production. Moreover, d) they obstruct RNA translation by interfering with ribosome function and e) induce RNase H-mediated RNA degradation, reducing RNA levels. f) Additionally, they inhibit microRNAs, thereby allowing the expression of specific genes suppressed by microRNAs.
