Two of the energy-sensing master regulators of plant development, TOR and SnRK1, are triggered differently under low and high cytosolic sugar levels in the cytosol of plant cells. This results in differential activation or inhibition of genes associated with autophagy, presenting the developmental senescence and stay-green phenotypes.
