Overview of VEGF/VEGFR signaling and ligand specificity
Description
VEGF receptors (VEGFR-1, -2, -3) are transmembrane tyrosine kinases or soluble forms (sVEGFRs). VEGFR-1 is found on endothelial cells, macrophages, and HSCs. VEGFR-2 is mainly on vascular endothelium; VEGFR-3 on lymphatic endothelium. VEGF ligands (A–D, PlGF) are dimeric glycoproteins with varying receptor affinities. Co-receptors NRP-1 and NRP-2 enhance VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3 signaling, promoting endothelial and lymphatic cell proliferation.
