Hormones are regulated through feedback loops that help maintain balance in the body.
In a negative feedback loop, the release of a hormone causes a change that reduces further hormone release. For example, high levels of thyroid hormones inhibit the pituitary from releasing TSH.
In a positive feedback loop, a hormone causes a change that increases its own release. A key example is estrogen during ovulation.
