Description: This is a very summarised visualisation of the role of PTEN in the PI3K pathway. PTEN blocks the phosphorylation of PIP2 to PIP3, promoting apoptosis in the cancer cell and reducing cell survival and growth. When PTEN is absent, the PI3K pathway cascade is activated, promoting cellular growth and survival and inhibiting apoptosis. This will result in the survival and replication of cancer cells.
