Annexin V-AF488 Apoptosis assay
Description
During early stages of apoptosis, there is a loss of membrane phospholipid asymmetry, leading to the exposure of phosphatidylserine on the cell surface. Annexin V, a protein with high affinity for PS residues, can detect this occurrence in the presence of Ca2+. Together with Propidium Iodide (PI), it can differentiate between healthy (Annexin−PI−), apoptotic Annexin+PI−), and necrotic (Annexin+PI+) cells, and be used for quantitative analysis of cell death.
