Botulinum Toxin A Effect in Neuromuscular Junction
Description
Botulinum toxin A, produced by anaerobic bacteria Clostridium botulinum, blocks the release of acetylcholine from the axon terminal. The botulinum toxin cleaves specific soluble N-ethylmaleimide sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) proteins that are essential for binding and fusion of the synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane.
