Comparison between lytic and lysogenic life cycles of bacteriophages
Description
In the lytic cycle, the phage takes control of the host’s DNA and starts an immediate replication to release new progeny by cell lysis. In contrast, temperate phages recombine with the host’s DNA by integration and allow the cell to replicate normally with the prophage, and at some point, the prophage switches to the lytic pathway to release more progeny.
