Description

Derivation of microglia from human stem cells according to the Guttikonda et al protocol (Nature Neuroscience 2021) recapitulates development of tissue-resident microglia. Microglia are derived from yolk sac progenitors early in development, in contrast to monocyte-derived macrophages which derive from bone marrow hematopoiesis.
