Description:
Generic example of how current flows through two cells connected via gap junctions. When cell 1 is depolarized by the influx of positive ions, the current spreads to the adjacent cells via connexons. This flow of ions into the adjacent cells begin to depolarize cell 2. If cell 2 is sufficiently depolarized, voltage-gated ion channels can open to promote further depolarization in cell2.
