Growth Hormone Disorders
Description
This illustration shows GH regulation and disorders. In GH deficiency, GHRH stimulates the pituitary to increase GH. In excess, somatostatin reduces GH release. GH affects the liver, which produces IGF-1 for bone/muscle growth. GH deficiency leads to growth issues in children and muscle loss in adults. Excess GH causes gigantism in children and acromegaly in adults, with enlarged features. Feedback from IGF-1 helps maintain GH balance.
