Insulin Metabolism and Clearance
Description
This figure illustrates the synthesis and maturation of insulin. It starts with preproinsulin, which includes a signal sequence (pink) and three chains (A, B, C). The signal sequence is removed, resulting in proinsulin forming disulfide bonds (S-S) between chains A and B. The C chain is then removed to produce mature insulin, composed of chains A and B. Insulin is cleared at different rates, with faster clearance in the liver and slower clearance in the kidneys.
