Description
Damage to the optic nerve (1) causes no response to ipsilateral light, but billateral miosis illuminating the contralateral eye. Damage to the 3rd nerve (2) results in a dilated pupil unresponsive to light, but contralateral pupillary constriction is preserved. This helps localize the lesion along the pupillary light reflex pathway.
