Mechanism of action of polysaccharide vaccines versus glycoconjugate vaccines
Description
The carrier protein from glycoconjugate vaccines is processed by the PS-specific B cell and resulting peptides are presented to peptide-specific T-cells which can help for the production of both plasma cells and memory B cells (T-cells dependent response). Polysaccharides from virulent bacteria stimulate B cells by cross-linking the B-cell receptors and drive the differentiation in plasma cells with production of low affinity antibodies (T-cells independent response).
