Description
This template shows the active site of a metalloprotease, where a zinc ion coordinated by two histidine residues and another ligand activates a water molecule with help from a glutamate residue. The activated water then attacks the carbonyl carbon of the substrate's peptide bond, initiating hydrolysis of the amide bond between the R1 and R2 groups.
