Description:
The Cas13 protein binds to the gRNA, forming a complex. The sgRNA:Cas13 complex scans through single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) until it recognises the complementary protospacer flanking sequence (PFS). When recognition occurs, this leads to non-specific RNA cleavage of the recognised site. Figure as described by (Burmistrz et al., 2020).
