Microglia Activation
Description
This template shows resting microglia becoming activated toward either a proinflammatory M1 state, triggered by MAMPs, IFN-gamma, and GM-CSF and releasing cytokines like IL-1beta and TNF-alpha that lead to a degenerated neurotoxic neuron, or an anti-inflammatory M2 state, triggered by IL-4, IL-10, and IgG and releasing factors like IL-10 and TGF-beta that support a healthy neuroprotective neuron. A surveillance function mediated by CSF1R, SIRP1A, CX3CL1, and CD200R is also shown feeding back to resting microglia.
