Description
Microglia activation occurs after HI injury. The activated microglia release factors that hinder oligodendrocyte maturation, leading to decreased myelination. Additionally, the release of neurotoxic factors by microglia accelerates neurotoxicity and neuronal death. Moreover, synaptic pruning by microglia during brain development is altered, affecting brain connectivity.
