Description
This template shows how gut bacteria in the lumen are kept in check by the outer and inner mucus layers of the epithelial lining, which secrete antimicrobial proteins, mucin glycoproteins, and bacteria-specific IgA. It also traces how a dendritic cell samples bacteria and migrates to a mesenteric lymph node, where it activates a B cell that differentiates into an IgA-secreting plasma cell whose antibodies are transcytosed back into the mucus layer.
