This figure illustrates the protective role of HIV accessory proteins Nef and Vpu in preventing immune clearance. In the presence of Nef and Vpu, CD4 and NKG2DL are downregulated, and Env remains in a closed conformation, shielding infected cells from antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). Without Nef and Vpu, Env adopts an open conformation, exposing ADCC epitopes, making infected cells vulnerable to immune clearance.
