Description:
A simplified visualization of the differentiation stages of a mesenchymal stem cell in the osteognic differentiation lineage. MSCs differentiate to pre-osteoblasts, which synthesize a collagenous extracellular matrix, which will be mineralized by the mature osteoblast cells. These can undergo osteoporosis or differentiate into bone lining cells or osteocytes, the most prevalent cell type in the bone.
