Plant virus infection cycle
Description
Viruses enter plant cells through non-lethal damage to the cell wall. Once inside, they uncoat and release their genome. Viruses with dsRNA or sense ssRNA genomes are directly transcribed into mRNA by their own RdRp. Those with dsDNA genomes are transcribed into mRNA by the host cell's RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Viruses with ssDNA genomes replicate before transcription in the nucleus.
