Pore Formation by Pore-forming Toxins (PFTs)
Description
This template shows soluble pore-forming toxins binding to a membrane receptor and then assembling into a pore through two alternative pathways, forming either a non-inserted pre-pore that later inserts into the membrane or a partially formed pore that completes assembly in place. Once formed, the pore allows calcium influx and efflux of large molecules, potassium, ATP, and proteins across the cell membrane.
