Positive and Negative Selection of T Cells
Description
This template compares outcomes of T cell selection when positive and negative selection target the same versus different specificity or avidity for self antigens. When specificity is the same, all cells selected during positive selection are later eliminated by negative selection leaving no survivors, whereas when specificity differs, about 5 percent of the original thymocyte pool survives as mature peripheral T cells.
