Protective immune response during primary C. burnetii infection
Description
Figure 1: Adaptive immune response to C. burnetii infection. (A) Infected cells deliver bacterial antigens to CD8+ T cells via MHC-I, which releases IFNγ and TNFα to regulate intracellular bacteria. Effector CD8+ T cells can also directly kill infected cells via release of perforin. (B) Using MHC-II, dendritic cells activate CD4+ T cells. (C) C. burnetii antigens activate B cells, which grow into plasma cells and produce specific antibodies via both T cell-dependent and -independent routes.
