Protein Import into the Mitochondria
Description
This template shows the four-step process of protein import into the mitochondria, starting with a precursor protein's signal sequence binding an import receptor in the TOM complex. The protein is then inserted into the outer membrane, translocated into the matrix through the TIM23 complex, and the signal peptide is cleaved by a signal peptidase to yield the mature mitochondrial protein.
