RT-PCR and FISH tests for t(9;22) Philadelphia chromosome
Description
RT-qPCR (RNA) and FISH (DNA) are the two most well defined diagnostic tests for the detection of the t(9;22) or Philadelphia chromosome. This pathogenic translocation is of great importance for the diagnosis, follow-up and target therapy of leukemia such as CML and ALL. Both techniques use complementary sequence probes for high specificity. Nonetheless, due to the amplification step of RT-qPCR, this test presents a higher sensitivity and is the gold standard for monitoring residual Ph+ disease.
