The fundamental process of cytokines-mediated communication between mammalian immune cells, highlighting both the biosynthesis (incl. events: transcriptional in the nucleus and translation in the rough endoplasmic reticulum [ER], post-translational modification in the Golgi apparatus) and secretion of signaling molecules (Panel A). Secreted cytokine diffuses toward nearby responder cell, binds its cognate receptor and initiating intracellular signaling that drives cell's responses (Panel B).
