Spared Nerve Injury (SNI)
Description
The spared nerve injury (SNI) model is a rat model of peripheral neuropathic pain involving selective lesioning of two sciatic nerve branches, sparing the sural nerve. Unlike other models, it limits mixing of intact and degenerating axons, enabling precise behavioral testing. SNI induces rapid, long-lasting hypersensitivity to mechanical and thermal stimuli, offering a robust tool to study neuropathic pain mechanisms.
