Steps for Studying Plant Functional Genomics Using VIGS (Virus-Induced Gene Silencing)
Description
The aim of the VIGS technology is to downregulate the expression of a target gene by cloning the sequence into a viral plasmid. One of the most commonly used viruses is TRV (tobacco rattle virus); plasmid TRV2 is shown in the template. By agroinfiltrating the plant with the modified strain of A. tumefaciens, the outcome will be the downregulation of the chosen target due to the triggering of RNA interference, which can be monitored with RT-PCR.
