Interferon-gamma (IFNγ) release assay (IGRA) is a blood test used to detect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB).
Steps:
Blood Collection:
1.Collect a blood sample.
Exposed individuals will have T-cells activated by APCs.
2.T-cell Stimulation:
Stimulate T-cells with MTB-specific antigens in coated tubes.
Previously exposed T-cells release IFNγ.
3.Measurement:
Measure IFNγ release using ELISA to determine exposure to MTB.
