The activation of Toll-like receptors 2 and 4 by E. coli and GBS
Description
TLR4 is specialized in recognizing lipopolysaccharides (LPS), a major component of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria like E. coli. TLR2 is primarily responsible for recognizing bacterial peptidoglycans, which are found in the cell walls of gram-positive bacteria like GBS. When GBS engages with TLR2, either as a whole bacterium or through its peptidoglycan components, the receptor forms a heterodimer with TLR1 or TLR6, activating downstream signaling pathways.
