The Inhibition of Ribosomal Translocation by Antibiotic Lariocidin
Description
This figure demonstrates how the antibiotic lariocidin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by inhibiting the process of translocation. Lariocidin binds the 30S subunit at a distinct site adjacent to the ribosome's decoding site, preventing the conformational changes required to allow translocation along the mRNA. Lariocidin-bound ribosomes are usually arrested at the start codon of the mRNA.
