Tripartite Glutamatergic Synapse
Description
This template shows a tripartite glutamatergic synapse with a presynaptic neuron releasing glutamate through VGLUT-containing vesicles via SNARE-mediated fusion, which then binds NMDA and AMPA receptors on the postsynaptic neuron and mGlu receptors on a neighboring astrocyte. The astrocyte recycles glutamate to glutamine via glutamine synthase and returns it to the presynaptic neuron to be reconverted to glutamate by glutaminase.
