An editable high resolution scientific image depicting Tryptophan metabolism and the kynurenine pathway

Description

Over 90% of tryptophan is degraded to kynurenines via the kynurenine pathway (KP), while a small amount is used for serotonin or protein synthesis. KP starts with tryptophan breakdown by TDO or IDO. KYN is further metabolized into neuroprotective or neurotoxic compounds. About 60-80% of brain KYN comes from the periphery, crossing the BBB. Astrocytes produce neuroprotective KYNA and PA, while microglia generate neurotoxic 3-HK and QA.
