Types of GTP-Binding Proteins
Description
This template compares two types of GTP-binding proteins: heteromeric G-proteins, where a ligand-activated receptor causes the alpha, beta, and gamma subunits to dissociate and act on an effector protein, and monomeric G-proteins such as Ras, which cycle between GDP- and GTP-bound states with help from a GEF and GAP. Both pathways are shown converging on a ligand-gated receptor and GTP hydrolysis cycle.
