Who's eligible for an individual student plan?
Important: Student plan discounts are not available for reimbursed purchases. If your lab, department, or grant will cover the cost, you should sign up for an Individual Academic plan.
To qualify for a student plan, you must:
Be a K-12 student, or an undergrad, graduate student (master's or PhD), or postdoctoral researcher – at a university, research institute, or non-governmental organization (NGO).
Pay out of pocket with a personal credit card.
Sign up with an academic email address.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy a subscription for just one month?
The Graduate Student and Postdoc plans are available with monthly billing. The Undergraduate plan is billed in 4-month cycles only at $20 per cycle.
Can I publish figures from a student plan in a journal?
Graduate Student and Postdoc plans include rights to publish in peer-reviewed journals, grant applications, and personal educational websites. The Undergraduate plan does not include journal publication rights. For other publication rights, please read our Help Center Article.
What if my department or grant will cover the cost?
Individual student plans are only available to current students paying out of pocket. If you will be reimbursed, you are not eligible for student pricing.
How do I sign up for a student plan?
Sign up for a BioRender account using your academic email address, and select your current student role during sign up. When you go to upgrade your plan, your student pricing will appear automatically as an option. A personal credit card is required to activate the subscription.
Can I upgrade from an Undergraduate to a Graduate Student plan later?
In-app plan upgrades are not currently available for student subscriptions. Contact our support team to cancel your current plan and subscribe to the appropriate higher-tier plan.
Can I publish my BioRender figures in a textbook?
The Undergraduate student plan does not include textbook publication rights. Graduate and Postdoc Student plans allow up to 5 figures in non-profit textbooks. For broader textbook rights, an Academic Individual plan is required.
What happens if my role changes from undergraduate to graduate student?
Update your role in Profile Settings under the 'About You' section. Note that role changes can only be made to a higher-level position within the app. If you need to change to a lower-level role, contact our support team.
